If you like Aristotle or Ayn Rand, try this out

This book is a ground breaking in that it establishes Christ as the center to Virtue Ethics. She does not go far enough, but she gets us a good ways. I believe that Ayn Rand's antagonism against Christianity would have been helped if Christians would articulate virtue ethics as we see them here in this book.

There are so many virtues to this book, I am sad that I have not given it five stars. For example, the opening pages are so helpful and excellent. It is accessible too.

So why not five stars? Simple put: I want her to ground all things on Christ for the glory of Christ. I give it four stars because if you read this, you will be left thinking and contemplating God for many years to come. This book is so excellent, I think a person who was a full-blown Christologist will be pleased, and propelled.

You know what, I change my mind, I am giving it five stars. When you read a book, must you agree with it 100% to give it five stars? This book is so exceptional, it would be wrong for me to not give it the full marks. I don't have to protect my personal sensibilities to admit that this is pure brilliance.

Who is this Ms Linda Zagzebski? Where did she come from? I don't know. I had never heard of her. She teaches in Oklahoma. Oklahoma (that state is hiding a treasure)! Even if you are a theologian who does not know who Linda is, or your field of study does not drive you to have direct contact with philosophy, I must beg of you, read Linda's book and be ready to rethink how it is you think of God. She speaks to specialists in her field, but you will be able to figure out the conversation (don't give up on this book). Maybe before you read this, it will help if you care to know why Kant is so impressive to so many people. That might be useful to know. Who will help you in that? Ayn Rand. Ayn Rand will get you ready to wonder about Kant. I believe that reading Aristotle and then Ayn Rand will pave the way for you wanting to have this book. But if you don't go that path, read this book if you care about the Protestant Reformation and how it is that "ethics" have come to take the form Westerners know (it is not her objective to explore the history of Reformation ethics, I am just saying that her book directly affects the subject).

The Time Dollars program, which the authors see as a complement to, and not competitor with, the money-powered general economy, is already in place in various communities and organizations in San Antonio, Florida, Hawaii, and elsewhere. Elegantly simple in conception-- help others with, say, two hours of service and you've got two Time Dollars that you can spend for two hours of service by others for you--the program, the authors believe, has the potential to significantly improve many Americans' lives. Strong arguments to back up this belief (e.g., that Time Dollars allow the elderly to contribute to society) are included here, as well as provocative proposals for specific Time Dollar applications (e.g., as a student-aid/loan forgiveness program), and, thankfully, clear and detailed instructions on how to set up a Time Dollar program in your organization or community. Timebanks are alive and well

The concepts that Edgar Cahn developed in this book have continued to evolve in the years since this was written. Hundreds of communities across the USA (and thousands more around the world) now have functioning timebanks where members can trade their time and talents.

Several major foundations have helped fund develop of how-to manuals and timesharing software, available at low cost. Timebanks are a great way to build community and bring neighbors together. Learn more at Timebanks.org.

The Bread Book, which features her recipes for loaves from all over the world, exemplifies her commitment to her subject but without the rigidity and complication--or oversimplification--of similar works. Calmly, and taking into account every possible bread-making contingency, she explains how to produce a variety of breads, from basic sandwich loaves to ciabatta. But it's the photos--more than 300 of them--that set this book apart. For example, the basic loaf recipe is accompanied by 22 detailed shots, showing every preparatory step from crumbling yeast to slashing the loaf before baking. Amateur and practiced bakers alike will welcome this careful illustration of a process that relies so much on visual cues. In addition to covering basic, flat, and quick breads, Collister offers chapters on such specialty loaves as fruit, nut, and savory breads (cheese and onion loaf), celebration breads (panettone and challah), and sourdough, rye, and enriched goods (babas, savarins, and Aberdeen butteries, a delicious Scottish breakfast roll). The Bread Book is so comprehensive and the recipes so tempting that it's unfortunate to note that it is compromised by inaccurate quantity conversions and a repeated typographical glitch that obscures ingredient requirements in several recipes. Collister states that a cup of flour (no distinction is made among types) equals four ounces rather than about five, the standard equivalent for white flours. Thus, for example, 6 cups of white bread flour is stated as equivalent to 680 grams, while actual measurement shows it to weigh 822 grams--a difference of about 5 ounces. The cup or gram measure as given is, therefore, unreliable. Pass it by, not worth your time or your money if you are an experienced baker

This book just wasn't what I thought it would be. I thought there would be better bread recipes but it is a compilation of many cooks recipes so it is disappointing, not what I thought. No I would not recommend this if you are an experienced baker. If you are just learning to bake bread you might garner something from this book.

Best Bread Book Ever

I love this book. It really taught me how to bake bread. Now, I can modify almost any recipe to make it work the way the recipies in this book work. Also, I have made most of the recipes and they have all turned out very well. I actually buy a couple of these books every year at Christmas and give them to friends and family as presents. All of them have used the book and they rave about it too. If you are interested in learning how to make bread but don't have much experience, this is a GREAT book. If you do have lots of experience and don't need much help - this book is still wonderful because it has a wonderful variety of recipes. Excellent book. Wish I could give it 6 stars!

Great bread

I just baked the basic loaf from this book and it was excellent for so little effort and time. The photos are surprisingly useful. Whereas other books often reserve photos for the finished product, this one shows many of the steps as well and attempts to show the appropriate consistency of the dough.

The only problem I have found is that there are references to incorrect pages throughout the book. For example, in the sourdough chapter the text refers you to page 176 for instructions on how to keep a starter for longer than a few days but that page is a series of recipes for sweet icings and fillings. I know of at least one other similar mistake without really looking for them. If the information is important (like how to keep a starter going) you can normally locate it using the index.

Experience is everything!

You will read many how to guides by individuals who sound very elequent but don't have any experience. This book is great because it is written by someone who practices what they preach. Tim writes in a way that's easy to understand and that covers the main topics needed to succeed on the Turo platform.

I like to research before jumping into a venture

Purchased this ebook, and found it contained very detailed steps on how to list a car using Turo to create a profitable side business. I like to research before jumping into a venture, and Tim has done a fantastic job mapping it out. For example, illustrating the Return on Investment or which IVR prompts to dial to reach Turo customer service. I love when the guess work is taken out. Highly recommend.

He's had a car totaled and was completely taken care of by TURO, giving me the reassurance I need to want to jump right in to renting vehicles through TURO.
