Another great reference from Amy Gillett

The daily conversation examples are so common that you can easily find yourself in one of these situations and use the knowledge you recently gained from reading this book! If you're new to the USA, use this book as your daily dictionary. If you're a seasoned ESL speaker, then I urge you to challenge yourself, because you are likely to find more than a few examples in which you will catch yourself saying "oh, I didn't know that". It's a fun read, I highly recommend it.

I really love this book

Speaking a language without using idioms and expressions is neither expressive nor full in meaning. Amy does a great job writing this book because it teaches us the idioms we need for daily life situations. Each lesson presents good stories and the associated idioms and expressions that go with them. Language lens is a grammar refresher and expression practice followed by quizzes all do a good job to practice what we learned. The audio CD that comes with the book helps the reader with the pronunciation and it can be played over and over again at reader's convenience.

Does it really matter how you Start?

This is an exciting book that young and old, Black and White, executive and mailroom, or Blue collar and white collar workers can truly enjoy. It's great for a visual age like ours as it's full of page after page of lovely pictures and easily written so that it's user friendly and bursting with intrigue for all ages.

"The Race" kind of grows on you as you read it again and again. It's a great night time story for adults and children. Or find yourself reading it as an eye opener at a Boardroom meeting with executives.

It get's to the heart of these questions.

Does it really matter how you start?

Dee Groberg & Mac Anderson deserve a lot of credit for putting together this most informative book. It deals with a story all of us can relate to about being involved in a Race. You can learn some very important lessons from this book full of paradox and awesome ambiguity. Adults loved it and I've personally read it to over 55 children I mentor who all throught it was the bomb! You'll find it very thought provoking and worthy of giving to countless friends as a gift...it's cheaper than a McDonald's or Starbucks gift card with a longer shelf life less calories and no aftertaste. But please don't believe a word I'm saying get it and read it for yourself! I liked it so I'm giving it away.

I had ordered two books earlier and loved them. I wanted to order more for my family that are having some struggles or are in leadership positions at their jobs and at the church we go to. I recommend the books to all. When you have fallen at sometime in your life, this book will help to lift you up.
I ordered five from one source, and four from another source on Amazon. I received the five, but didn't get the four. I have emailed them to get the other four. I haven't heard from them. I have already been charged on my credit card for both orders. I am waiting for a response. After a week, I have heard nothing.

Nice book, someone is definitely getting kicked...maybe White, maybe Black.

As far as I can tell at my advanced beginner level, the book delivers on it's basic promise - it is not just a database dump, or crazy sidelines that might catch someone out.

When I first started playing tournaments I noticed that there were often book sellers with little opening pamphlets like this book. These were mostly junk you bought because you just lost in that line that round! What Annoni offers here is actually quite nice. Unlike many of the early opening monographs, this one promises no gimmicks and to give Black a chance to play real chess with the QGA.

I think I would have given this book five-stars, if it weren't for some questionable evaluations compared to computers, databases and other deeper opening books.

I compared the line given for Black against the sharp 1.d4 d5 2.c4 cxd4 3.e4 which Annoni covers in Chapter 6 called "The central duo 3.e4". Indeed, this is the line recommended in GM Schandorff's Playing 1.d4: The Queen's Gambit (Grandmaster Guide). The problem I see with Annoni's recommendations in this chapter is that after 3...Nf6 4.e5 Nd5 5.Bxc4 Nb6 6.Bd3 Nc6 7.Be3 Be6 8.Nc3 Qd7 (quite correctly given as a good line), the move for White which Annoni gives 9.Ne4 has not been played at the master level between 2010 and 2013 (so far). While the move 9.Nf3, which looks quite natural, has been played 9 times all but one of which White won (even a ~2400 beat a ~2600), and there was one draw. Annoni says that after his line (which includes the unplayed 9.Ne4) that Black has equalized. I'm not sure about this and neither is HIARCS 14 after 24 plys. I'm a big fan of this guy's artwork and subject matter. I bought his 1st. book and just added this one to my collection. Although the models and faces and poses, all look 'generically the SAME' in both books....this is more a minor observation than complaint. Love the exaggerated voluptuous Rubenesque style of the artist. (And this can be a great 'reference source' for other artists & sculptors looking to recreate this female bodytype in other art mediums)

Todd Mikkelsen is originally from Omaha, Nebraska and now lives in Southeast Minnesota with his family. He is an avid college football and science fiction fanatic. Todd is an educator with a BA in Earth Science Education and a Master of Science in Physics Education. He has over 14 years of experience in teaching. He has taught math, computer skills, physical science, geology, astronomy, chemistry, and physics. His favorite topic to teach is Quantum Mechanics. His desire to teach his daughters on how to make paracord bracelets led to his knowledge of paracord.

This is a great book for BEGINNERS and people already making paracord bracelets. The author has a Master's in Education with a Physics emphasis. He has also been teaching for 14 years. This book can take difficult concepts and make them seem effortless. It is similar to the way professional athletes make their sporting events look simple.

This book shows you how to finish a bracelet with a buckle, without having to singe the paracord to the edge of the bracelet. A singed edge looks horrible! Thanks to this book, I know how to finish a paracord bracelet with a clean look. This book shows how to tie off the paracord and hide it comfortably on the inside of the bracelet. I would recommend it for your local libraries and scouting projects, because Paracord 101 helps you quickly make these fun and popular bracelets.

Poorly illustrated

I have tied several of the knots in this book prior to receiving it. I was disappointed in that the illustrations are difficult to follow due to the color schemes used. Why anyone would try to teach a knotting technique using patterned paracord and poor color choices is beyond me.

This book will get a beginner tying bracelets, but they may have to struggle a bit to get the knots right because of the poor illustrations.

Great edition of an old book, interesting read, great info, read it with a grain salt

This is a really good book by the father of electricity. He was a very good explainer although some words or expressions may be unfamiliar due to the age difference. This book is a great read but should be read with grain of salt, you have to be aware that the stuff in this book is more than 100 years old, many of the chapters are plain obsolete, and many of the techniques, theories and materials were not invented or discovered back then so you shouldnt take literally everything this book says. However most of the core information of the book hasnt changed over the last 100 years, Steinmetz who first described magnetic hysteresis, makes a very fine job explaining it in this book, most of the book is focused on the magnetic effects of materials, hystereresis and its impact on electric circuits, this book should provide a solid foundation on magnetic hysteresis, complemented with a more modern book which approaches new materials and techniques.

As for the edition of this book, I must say it is great, no missing words, formulas or images, the paper quality is quite good, relatively thick yellowish paper, also the print quality is quite good. I've seen complete editorial disasters with these old Steinmetz books, in which pages will be missing, or graphs and formulas will be chopped off, etc.. this is not the case with this book, this one is very clean, I wish the quality of the other Steinmetz books could be as good as this one.
