Great review book!

Didn't want to spend $500 on the full Kaplan course but I've heard good things about Kaplan so I decided to give this a try. I loved it! Ended up being my primary study method, and I passed in 75 questions on my first try. The questions were pretty similar to the actual NCLEX and I think the rationales were definitely helpful.

This memoir is a bitter review of Stockman's years in the Reagan Administration. It is a book with few heroes and many fools. The author claims naivete as his excuse. Although the narrative is somewhat confusing, overall, its backstage view of policymaking leaves one discouraged, even frightened by the superficiality. The book is a necessary library purchase for two reasons: the notoriety of the book and its author, and the insider's view of key policies still in place and key personalities still in power. About the Author
David A. Stockman was elected as a Michigan congressman in 1976, and joined the Reagan White House in 1981 as budget director. During nearly two decades at the Blackstone Group, where he was one of the early partners, and at Heartland Industrial Partners, a firm he founded, Stockman was a private equity investor. Born in Fort Hood, Texas, Stockman now lives in Connecticut. He is the author of The Great Deformation: How Crony Capitalism Corrupted Free Markets and Democracy.

Politics Never Change

The real mechanisms of legislation are clearly defined in 'Triumph'. A naif Stockman entered our national government as though there is a functional and real logic to getting things done. Instead he discovered, as perhaps many suspect, just to what extent special interests control all outcomes. The saddest part of his commentary is the simple fact that 'our' way of doing the nation's business has not changed since Reagan, nor has the appearance of changing in near future. "Act of Congress", concerning writing of the Dodd-Frank law, by Washington Post journalist Kaiser, is a more current version of the same sad story.

Should be required reading for every fan of "Trickle Down" economics.

Some reviewers have criticized the volume of economic and financial minutia in this book, and it is true that the reader is going to wade through quite a swamp of detail, but that only serves to emphasize how intractable are the problems of governing something as large as America's economy. I can only say, please take the time if you are serious about how our country's financial affairs are managed, and keep Santayana's classic aphorism in mind: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.".

An entertaining and revealing look at the development and failure of the Reagan economic revolution through the eyes of his OMB director. Candid, hard hitting, easy to read and hard to put down, the book truly explores the gap between ideology and political reality. I wish more people would read this book. You would have a better understanding of why nothing changes in DC. A must read.

Why doesn't somebody?

Why doesn't somebody order a reprint of this book since it is so seminal to understanding color and light for painters? At $700 this book is way beyond my reach. Can't even find one in the library. Come on Amazon order a soft cover, full color edition!!!! Maybe Amazon should contract with Northern Lights to do the reprint.

Why is this book not reprinted and made available for artists?

I would love to be able to rate this book but cannot. The single star was posted inorder to send this message. As an artist, I would love to read this book but will not not pay the ridiculous current price. Why is this book not more widely available? Who owns the copyright? Does some selfish soul hold the copyright and hoard multiple copies allowing only a precious few copies out so higher prices will supplement their income? From what I have read, Henry Hensche was a teacher, keen on spreading his philosophy, and would be very disappointed that his book on painting was not getting out into the artists' hands. There are books by Henry Hensche's past students but these do not fulfill the desire for the real thing and seem, at best, snapshots taken from class notes. The net result of not getting Henry Hensche's book and his philosophy spread around will be the loss of the memory of this man and his teachings. Someday, folks will hear his name and say "Henry who"? "Who was he and why was he important?" Maybe that fading is already beginning to happen. His book will fall into obsoleteness and demand will be a just a trickle at best. The holder of the copyright does not do justice to Henry Hensche's memory and teaching.

As a pioneer in the "art of seeing and painting", Hensche's dogmatic approach is one that is appreciated and realized only after the student painter begins to understand the possibility and limitations of his painting through the constant study of light keys and weather conditions. Surely destined to be a classic for the striving Color Visualist painter, "The Art of Seeing and Painting" dispells many misunderstood and misrepresented facts about painting, the Old Masters, Impressionism and Claude Monet. An excellent source of solid information on a subject which has heretofore never been adaquately taken to such a degree of analysis and criticism.

not always easy when they are isolated without secondary characters

I have always admired the writing of Shelli Stevens. She has many series and her topics and settings are varied and entertaining. In Take Me in Tahoe, she has taken an old premise, stranded strangers, and made it seem fresh and new. I thought the story was well crafted, the pacing even and smooth, and the passion factor quite high. I appreciated most the strength of her character profiles. She kept the characters actions and reactions interesting and entertainin, not always easy when they are isolated without secondary characters. I thought Take Me in Tahoe was an enjoyable, fun read and I'm still a fan.

Nikki agrees to leave her townhouse and stay at her roommate’s boyfriend’s cabin in Tahoe so that they can be alone. When she gets there, she is grabbed by a wall of muscle who thinks she is breaking in. Chase thinks she is a thief because of her Goth like appearance, but still finds the stranded woman sexy as sin. He, also, thinks she is one of his brother’s girlfriends and doesn’t put the moves on her because of that. After finding out that Justin sent her there, Chase offers her the bed and she thinks she will leave in the morning. But, the snow strands the pair and they decide to pass the time with each other after Chase learns that she is not one of his brother’s conquests.

This was a short, sexy, steamy, story that I read very quickly. I liked Nikki’s quirky attitude and sarcastic personality. Chase is a firefighters, aka an ordinary guy, while Nikki likes to push the envelope and go against the norm. Together, they creates a combustible pair that passes the time in the cabin in so many fun ways. While these two would not have sought each other out in the “real world”, the fact that they were stranded made for a good tale and fun times.

Gitty Daneshvari was born in the creepy crawly yet ever so sunny city of Los Fangeles. As a young ghoul she was loquacious, curious, and freakishly fearful. Worried about everything from matted fur to aliens invading to getting stuck in an elevator, her diverse range of phobias was a most burdensome flaw. However, as she grew up and faced her fears, Gitty found they were the perfect inspiration for her defrightful middle grade series School of Fear.

outstanding scholarship

Anyone who is seriously interested in the history of Zen should add this authoritative book to their own library of Zen books. Compiled,translated and annotated by a Western-trained philosopher, Victor Sogen Hori, it is impressive in itself, but the first one hundred or so pages consisting of the Preface and Introduction alone will take you on an authentic journey into Japanese Zen. I must also mention an added and a nostalgic note is that the book's shared dedication names the late Kobori Nanrei, former Osho of the Ryoko-in at the Daitoku-ji, who gave me my own initial instruction into the challenges of a Zen-life now almost forty years ago.

Something New Every Day

I use this book to find capping phrases for koan study under my Zen teacher. It is almost the only English translation of capping phrase collections. True to its origins, the phrases are arranged by their number of characters; not by topic or subject matter. At first, that seemed pointlessly cumbersome.

However, using this book feels much like thumbing through a dictionary or encyclopedia. Every few pages you find an insight into yourself and your practice, an insight you did not even know you were looking for. Don't try to make a list of your favorite phrases, every time you pick up the book, something new will catch your attention, something that fits just that moment, that awareness.

For a Zen student, this is an exceptionally valuable book.

Victor Sogen Hori knows of what he speaks. A graduate of Stanford, and a Rinzai priest, he has expanded upon his fine article in Stephen Heine's book on Koan. The first hundred pages is Victor Hori writing about the Rinzai koan curriculum, how koans are used, and some very needed clarification on what satori and kensho are all about. Vice Admiral William Bligh, FRS, RN (9 September 1754 – 7 December 1817) was an officer of the British Royal Navy and a colonial administrator. As an avid reader of this category of books, I find Ruth Rendely’s new book an eye opener and amazing information to process and consider . This book shares ground ​breaking insights​ into our soul’s journey of life experiences. There are ​numerous​ questions answered ​but on the other hand, new questions ​may arise from what many will consider controversial.

This multiple souls theory may help to explain complexity in our human behavior. For those of you who believe such an explanation is impossible, after reading this book of Ruth's personal experiences, you might reconsider.

Not knowing anything about Ruth Rendely's new book, Your Multiple Souls, I read the entire book in amazement and feeling the truth of her written words vibrate in me just as I had experienced when I read her first book, Seraphim Blueprint. She is very candid and open in sharing her ideas, her theory and her own personal journey in the discovery of multiple souls. I was skeptical at first when I began reading her book, but now truly believe in her theory and see the potential of helping so many people. Thank you, Ruth, for never giving up and speaking your truth in getting this book published!!!
